Luzhou Laojiao has the first national level substantial cultural heritage in liquor industry—1573 national treasure cellars, which won quite a few Guinness world records.
The liquor brewing cellars with the highest level of cultural relic protection—the first national cultural relic protection unit in liquor industry.
On December 3, 1996, the state council issued No.47 (1996) document and firstly put a group of aged cellars—1573 national treasure cellars in the position of national treasure, that is, listed as a national cultural relic protection unit.
It was written in the expertise report by the expert commission for approval that 1573 national treasure cellars was the liquor cellars with the best conservation and the longest operation time. Its production still kept the traditional technique and the liquor fermented by grains and yeast in the cellars was of excellent quality. As the cradle of Chinese strong aromatic yeast liquor, it had high scientific and historical value, belong to the vacancy catalogue of cultural relic protection unit. Being regarded as “a major breakthrough of cultural relic protection”, 1573 national treasure cellars was worthy of the title of “the top cellar in China”.
The oldest brewing cellars——1573 national treasures cellars were first established in Wanli year (1573AD) of Ming dynasty, keeping brewing liquor till now for over 430 years, which are the earliest, best-preserved, and continuously longest-operation brewing cellars in our country.
Professor LUO Zhewen, leader of ancient architecture experts’ team of state cultural relic bureau, remarked: it is known that the older the equipment the more useless, but today I found an equipment that is different from others, that is, the aged cellars over 400years, the older the better. Though cannot compare to the gigantic architectures, and without complicated craftsmanship or fantastic engineering, it inherited the essence of brewing technique and exquisite brewage skills of thousands years. It bears the peculiarities of ancient architecture technique, biological breeding engineering, essence of science and technology, and profound connotation of culture and art, including the historical, scientific and artistic content of cultural relic.
The oldest brewing workshop——original site of “Shujuyuan” workshop, the cellar, stone stove, stone steaming bucket, tin pot for cooling, drying place and so on, all continuously worked over 430 years.
The largest number of cellars and aged workshops over hundred years——1615 aged cellars and workshops over hundred years reach the largest number in the same field. It became the cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan in 2007.
Features of “living cultural relic”——1573 national treasure cellars has always fermented over 430 years, newer with time, is the oldest “living cellars” in China. Because of the characteristic of unduplicated living relic, it was known as one of the world liquor brewing wonders.
Selected in World Cultural Heritage Tentative List——at the end of 2006, it was selected in World Cultural Heritage Tentative List published by national cultural relic bureau, having the chief qualification to apply for world cultural heritage.
